Rupert Murdoch at the Vanity Fair party celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Tribeca Film Festival. From his Wikipedia listing.

Up The Chain of Command With Rupert Murdoch

All this hoopla about Rupert Murdoch needing to resign because of the bribery scandal at the NEWS OF THE WORLD, and using as an analogy he being the “captain of the ship,” is inaccurate. His organization is more like a nation state and each individual publication is like a vessel in its navy’s armada. If one of those ships sink due to incompetence then the head of that particular vessel should hang, not the king or leader of the nation state. Murdoch is certainly not without blame though. He got lazy and relied too much on his hires to police organizational integrity.
