… just putting enough gas in to go up to Desoto Falls campground and back home.
By R.A. Moore
Met this lady today. I asked about the RV she was driving since it looked so mint for what I guessed was a late 70’s- early 80’s. I asked what year it was and if it had been restored. She replied with a half-hearted genuine smile, “It is a 1976. My husband and I bought it new and he was a firm believer in keeping it in tip top shape being that he was a proud mechanic.” She went on to say that they had taken it out west 4 times and numerous trips to Florida together with their family. I helped her with pumping her gas and asked if I could take a picture of her with the RV and she said with a slight blush, “Sure.”
After the photo, as we were about say goodbye, she returned to the half-hearted genuine smile saying, “My husband passed away a year ago this month. I’m just putting enough gas in to go up to Desoto Falls campground and back home. I’m going camping with my sons this weekend if that cloud doesn’t mean a lot of rain. This will probably be the last time I take it out.”
