Brad Delp, lead vocalist of Boston, passed away on March 9, 2007 of an apparent suicide by way of carbon monoxide poisoning, Associated Press has reported. He was 55 years old.

Delp joined Boston in the mid-1970s, after the band had already spent time working on its demos. Boston released its self-titled debut in 1976 to enormous success. Thanks to the popularity of songs like “More Than a Feeling,” the album sold 17 million copies, making it one of the most successful debut releases in the history of popular music.

Delp parted from and reunited with Boston several times over the past thirty years. At the time of his death, he was set to tour with the band. Delp also performed in the cover band Beatle Juice and as part various projects with fellow Boston member Barry Goudreau.

On his official website, Goudreau released the following statement.

“It is with tremendous sorrow that I report the death of my friend, musical collaborator and brother in-law, Brad Delp. His soaring, seemingly effortless vocals graced millions of Boston records as well as the numerous musical projects that we did together. He will be sorely missed by his many friends and his family. Anyone who met Brad knows he was the sweetest, kindest person you could have known. I hope he can rest in peace.”
