[35mm to Digital]

Cropping

Here’s a new black-and-white from the 35mm color negs archive. The subject is a girl I met at The North Park Street Fair in like 2004 or 2005 who came up to my apartment afterward and posed while smoking a cigarette. I wish the negative conversion bracket I shoot with could be modified so it would capture the whole image because I want to get her full figure, but if I want her feet in the image I have to slide the neg down the frame and it annoyingly then crops out her head. Maybe if I use a different lens and simply lay the strip flat on a light table. Then I need to use a solid tripod.

When creating images I’ve always used the full frame to fill a subject with. That is, I usually fill the viewfinder to its edges, and the conversion bracket I have crops the extreme edge at the top and bottom. This is going to be a learning process for sure.
