The Guts Will Make You Lose Your Shirt

by Jaime Suicide

The Guts! debut Queens is a shameless mix of sarcasm and synthesizers. Consider the potential hit song New Thing with its perfect sense of contrast. The uplifting beats and positive hook in stride with lyrical pop-culture mockery boldly illustrates a profound sense of irony, sincerity and realism. Likewise is the conceptual premise of Nuclear Bounce, where everyone celebrates the end of the world by booty dancing and procreating.

One of their most discernable talents is the innate ability to manifest a variety of emotion through sound—the suspense of Come Over, the sadness of Way To Stop, the reminiscence of Days Fly By, the coolness of It’s A Lie—these tracks create a fully diverse audio spectrum of mood. Although capable of creating atmosphere, The Gut! subtlety allows room for interpretation. They have mastered lyrical tightness by refining each line into the most precise yet simplistic delivery, allowing any real HUMAN to empathize.

Their cynical sense of humor undeniably sets them apart from any current electronic music group. With an unapologetic attitude they deliberately make mention of social taboos, and without sounding pretentious! The Guts! confront real issues such as classism in America and the pressures of casual sex. With tongue-in-cheek and Memory Moog in hand, The Guts! WILL own MTV. JS
