Numerous sources are reporting that Thomas “Pig Champion” Roberts, former guitarist of seminal hardcore/punk act Poison Idea died at his home on Monday night. Roberts – or “Pig Champion” as he had rechristened himself – toured with the band throughout the 90s and the new millenium despite officially leaving the band in 1993.

His unusual moniker was derived after he hit 450 lbs, leading him to be described as “spectacularly fat,” and “the single largest man in hardcore history.”

Poison Idea was formed in 1980 by vocalist Jerry Lang. Inspired by Black Flag, Discharge and the Germs, the band went on to release dozens of albums, EPs and released The Best of Poison Idea via Taang! in 2000.

Our deepest condolences go out to Tom’s family and friends.

… Pig is quoted by Debbie during the time of our breakup as saying my “candle” would burn out soon.

Too bad. Yours burnt out first, fat boy.
