Back in the 60’s lots of bands got on the anti-war wagon and made folk-rock that lives on because it was genuine and came from a well of real musical talent without being formulaic. Stunning blonde Swede lead singer Eleanor Goldfarb’s band gives a nod to some of that with their amazing cover of “Fortunate Son,” but there’s a lot of sultry, strong vocals, screeching guitar and samples here that will surprise you with a style that’s very 2013. This band is a ton of fun to see play live. There’s the Marilyn Manson-esque “I Am A War” which may have been what prompted Henry Rollins to call this band ‘very strong and very heavy.’ Track 10 is the feminist anthem “Don’t Call Me Baby” and that’s followed by final track, my favorite, the soaring “Gotta Move On.” A fine release.
