This CD is any reviewers dream. The opening track greets you with the singers singsong voice with a whimsical background melody. With guitar solos insinuating a modernized Zeppelin sound I became an automatic fan. Each song has these lyrics that turn you on to this mystical world that you can’t help yourself but to want to be apart of. I got this overwhelming feeling of wanting the songwriter to take me by the hand and lead me on this journey he so eloquently speaks of in the album. The beauty of Overwhelm is how multifaceted it is. Upon listening to the first track one may assume they know exactly what is in store for the rest of the album but each track continues to surprise you until the very last track. Whether it be tempo, style, or lyrics, each song is drastically different than the last which is an amazing feat for a premier LP album. The inevitable political rant track of Overwhelm lies in the song “Elephant Graveyard” which is a strong track with memorable lyrics. This could not be a fluff album even it tried. Upon initially hearing the piece “My Chernobyl” I thought that I had come across the one fluff track but to no avail. This band made even the subject of prostitution articulately provocative. This band was founded in Oberlin, Ohio and with the help of cover art talent Virginia Wagner, has been creating a buzz in the Seattle music/art scene and I can unquestionably see why. So light some candles, dim the lights and rock out with this album as soon as possible.

[http://myspace.com/TheEmptyMirror] [http://LandownerRecords.com]

SBF

[new music] The Empty Mirror Overwhelm CD Review by Stephanie Freedman The minute I picked up this CD the cover art alone gave a promise of a lyrically charged musical journey and I was not disappointed.
