Even though these days I drink mostly water and haven’t drank – I mean REALLY drink – for about 9 years or so – the last time I remember getting loaded was in Tijuana, I drank a bottle of inexpensive Mescal, which is basically Tequila, just not as strong (usually around 34% alcohol).

The last drink of any kind that I recall having, though, was this interesting concoction at a restaurant in Coronado called The Brigantine. After my meal, the guy with whom I ate lunch told me about this exotic drink and so I just had to try it: In an oversized shot glass was poured a jigger of Absolut Peppar brand vodka, a raw oyster, spicy cocktail sauce. I might be leaving out an ingredient or two but that’s the gist of it. It’s not something you’d want to drink, shot after shot, but it is an interesting treat.

When it comes to picking a favorite liquor, though, that is easy: Kentucky Straight Bourbon – brands like Knob Creek, Maker’s Mark, Wild Turkey – even Jim Beam, which may not be top shelf liquor, but it’s damn better than icky Jack Daniel’s.

If it’s beer you’re asking about, I’d have to go with Lone Star Beer – a Texas classic. This is very good beer. Unfortunately, one probably has to go to Texas to buy some, since I don’t remember seeing it in any liquor stores in a long, long time. I did drink a bunch of them at this club around 1993 or so, a place in Minneapolis called “Bunker’s”; that beer was so good I had this really hot waitress keep bringing me more and more.

More to come soon – don’t lose hope: something is bound to happen, musically, to wake up the nodding talent, waiting, in vain, it sometimes seems, for something exciting or at least new to happen. When that happens, I’ll be here to document it!

Later,
Kent

Kent’s Favorite Liquor By Kent Manthie So, just what is Kent’s favorite libation?
