Laufer

I ask, because Podcasts are free! What are Podcasts? Being still relatively young I found myself not current to all venues of music available and easily accessible. A close friend of mine who recently graduated from college has on several occasions spoke of Podcasts. I a creative person myself, was indeed curious to how new artists were able to compete and share work in the ever-changing currents of the internet. Have iTunes? An iPod? Podcasts is one avenue to stay current on newly released and upcoming artists. Even better, if you do find a Podcast you fancy, download and subscribe (most are free) and your iPod will be refreshed daily, weekly, or monthly with new episodes. Well, I am excited even if I am a late-bloomer on the subject. I wonder though, how many thirty-somethings or beyond know about Pod-casting? If your a person like myself who enjoys music other than what is played in the main stream, open yourself to surfing Podcasts. I am confident you are bound to find something you are into.

The Social Registry
http://www.thesocialregistry.com
Pod-cast 6/7/07
An independent label, based out of NYC, The Social Registry provides a monthly pod-cast. A compilation of newly released singles and EPS can be sampled. In June’s pod-cast, songs from Sinister Militia, VietNam, excerpts from The Social Club, Sian Alice Group and others made the list. Although I wasn’t crazy over every song on the 48 minute Pod-cast, there was enough to catch my interest- to check out the site and pick and choose the artists I did want to hear more of. Subscribe for free and have a monthly sneak peek. Sinister Militia described on the site as “beat poetics” was reminiscent to underground rave days in the late ’90’s. Enough changes are made, to keep even the untrained ear to the “beat” culture from becoming annoyed. VietNam’s “It’s Not Me” styled in simulacrum to Bob Dylan’s newest recordings in the last decade. The variety in this Pod-cast appears to be selected carefully with potential to pull the listener in, seeking for more.

Stones Throw
http://www.stonesthrow.com/guiltysimpson
Guilty Simpson’s “Man’s World” was recorded in late 2003 for Dilla and Guilty’s unfinished album according to Stones Throw site. Look for the upcoming album in late 2007 titled “Ode to the Ghetto”. “Man’s World” is a throw back to original flow and beats with a catchy R&B loop. It was a meeting of Al Green and Snoop Dogg, a rather nice combination. Check out Stones Throw underground hip hop label. You can find Dj Mr. Peanut Butter Wolf speaking about why he likes to pod-cast. Playing hip hop for the public and at shows, Mr. Wolf likes to use pod-casting as his outlet for other facets of himself. He will put up his 7 Knights pod-cast, a more spiritual and deeper side of Mr Wolf coming before the previous set date of 7/7/07.

Acoustic Long Island
http://www.acousticlongisland.com
A real coffee house treat! Sit back, in the luxury of your own home with your favorite cup of joe and tune into Acoustic Long Island live recorded performances every Wednesday night. If you like folk, acoustic rock, blues and ragtime, pull up a chair. Greg Fine sets an exsample for others to follow in the June 13, 2007 pod-cast. Greg Fine was the winner of Inside Connection Magazine’s Annual music Showcase by Polygram records in 1999. This artist creates a feeling of honor to listen to his intimate lyrics and guitar playing. A true encounter with a talented musician, and a recording of it that brings you right into the cafe with a small enclosed audience.

[trends] Would You Like A Podcast With That? by Tera D.
