North Park was still considered a ghetto in 1997. Gentrification hadn’t quite found it just yet. But it was coming.<\/p>\n

The goth club scene in San Diego was a photo-rich environment I’d been shooting in for a number of years, since the late 1980’s — think The Metro (?) and Rio’s in Point Loma. Shooter’s was three blocks away from my apartment. Between it, Scolari’s Office, and all the other bars near the corner of 30th and University I’m surprised I didn’t drink myself to death.<\/p>\n

I think Shooter’s was a gay bar other nights of the week, but I don’t know. I’d show up on goth nights with my Nikon and photograph the vampire women. It was a fun art scene thing to do. I’d get good pics for Reviewer Magazine and the scene would get publicity.<\/p>\n
