The Guardian Among Us
By Christina Armani

When I first heard about this movie it was being screened and I thought that it was cool but sounded cheesy. When I saw the trailers I thought that it looked really good but then I thought that since the movie is being shamelessly promoted on myspace by Kutcher himself how good could it be? However, I decided to stick with my decision to watch the movie and am glad that I did. Although at first I thought it was going to be complex and grand, the storyline was fairly basic and simple but glorious and magnificent. In the movie Kutcher plays Jake Fischer, a cocky swim champion who is guided by Senior Chief Ben Randall played by Kevin Costner. I really like how the movie promotes working together as a team to get a goal done and I also like how Hodge played by Brain Geraghty was driven to not give up on his dream and finally became a rescue swimmer after the third attempt. Although there is a tragic event in the movie, it ends on a positive note and does a fantastic job glorifying the men and women of the Coast Guard. Kutcher has every reason to be proud of the movie. I give the movie three and a half stars and two thumbs up but since I’m afraid I’ll get punked for it, I give the movie four stars. No, just kidding – the movie deserves to receive four stars on its own merit.
