Last night was a waning full moon. I was getting off at 11 PM from shooting a wedding reception in Old Town in a hotel ballroom that had a great view accross the harbor. It was a warm night and very clear. No wind. From the discription of where the man who was shot was picked up, "about 500 feet south of the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station," it sounds like he went into the drink right in the middle of the bay. I did a google search of the man’s name, Steven Paul Hirschfield, and came up with 26 entries and at the top was an imdb page here: www.imdb.com\/name\/nm1089999<\/a>. If it’s the same guy he was an actor in a flick called Sexual Magic. I wonder if the uniforms responding the the call knew who it was they were picking up. What made him fight with the officer who shot him? What did that officer say or do in the moments leading up to the confrontation after the already embarrased and possibly intoxicated Hirschfield was pulled out of the water? ~Editor<\/i><\/p>\n

SAN DIEGO — A man plucked out of San Diego Bay by Harbor Police fought with officers and was fatally shot when he tried to grab a pistol, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Harbor Police Lt. Ken Franke said a charter boat reported a man overboard about 11:10 p.m. Saturday, and Harbor Police officers in a boat fished him out of the bay about 500 feet south of the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station.<\/p>\n

Once aboard the police boat, the man fought with the two officers, Franke said.<\/p>\n

The man knocked one officer to the deck, injuring him, then took his Taser stun gun and hit him in the face with it, Franke said.<\/p>\n

The man then tried to take the officer’s handgun, he said.<\/p>\n

The other officer then shot him once in the upper body, Franke said.<\/p>\n

The medical examiner’s office identified the victim as Steven Paul Hirschfield, 37, of Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

Paramedics met the Harbor Police boat at the Embarcadero and declared him dead, he said.<\/p>\n

The injured officer was taken to Sharp Hospital with face and leg injuries, he said.<\/p>\n

San Diego police, Harbor Police and investigators with the District Attorney’s Office will investigate the officer-involved shooting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
