I found out today that San Diego club DJ Kelly Lynch died last year. Heather Evans aka Mz Kitten told me.<\/p>\n
I first met DJ Kelly Lynch in the late 1980’s when he was spinning House music for Chaos Productions at an Australian-themed bar and mini brewery (before they were cool) called Sybil’s Down Under in the Gaslamp District of downtown San Diego. They were doing Club Berlin on Thursday nights for Revolt In Style magazine and I was shooting club photos for it. Kelly’s skill on the turntables was awe-inspiring to me. He was at the top of his game and could easily get the dancefloor seething with bodies. It made that nightclub a pleasure to shoot at every week.<\/p>\n
Later when I began Reviewer Magazine I asked him to write something I could print in the first issue about dance music and he submitted this article. He even “typeset” it for me on his new-fangled “desktop computer” because, being 1996, I knew jack about anything digital. Boy was I in for a learning curve.<\/p>\n
Lots of eras have come and gone since then and few people still around today remember those early House music days. They were a lot of fun. Somewhere in my archives I have photos of Kelly in ’89 at Club Berlin I’m sure but here some of him a few years later at Mz Kitten’s 4th&B fashion show event, working it and in the zone.<\/p>\n
Where ever Kelly is spinning now I hope he’s hydrated and in the groove.
