Jimmy Ovadia Is An Artist Whose Work Really Works
by Reviewer Rob
Earlier this year I caught a performance by artist Jimmy Ovadia at Quality Social painting boards as the after-dinner nightclub crowd listened to music and contemplated venturing out onto the dance floor. He was in the near corner of the room, by the entrance and out-of-the-way, but he was clearly in his own world painting a fantasy landscape with an ethereal female figure in the foreground. He said he does one of these per-performance and the finished artwork usually sells at the end of the night. I could not help but think of it as a perfect club owner-artist relationship. The painter gets exposure and a place to sell his work and the proprietor gets entertainment for the guests.
Ovadia’s bio: “Jimmy Ovadia’s art leads us on a transformative psychedelic odyssey full of unique and creative dreamlike portholes. It takes the mind through twists and turns perceived through levels of consciousness and mysticism. Born Aries, April 17 in San Diego, California, Jimmy knew at a young age that the path he was traveling on would lead to divine manifestations. Through his adolescence he began to illuminate his core within. By breaking free from the cultural and religious restrictions his upbringing brought him, he was able to unveil infinite realms and dimensions of his mind. Jimmy’s inspiration comes from unfeigned life experiences. With the birth of his first son along came the birth of an utopian, a true visionary. His world began to take full cosmic unity. Even though the battles and struggles life throws his way he is still able to persevere and propagate unprecedented work. Jimmy’s quest is toward an abstract surrealistic art that visually unites the body, mind, soul and spirit. It elucidates and enlightens the individual and the world around them.”
Ovadia’s website doesn’t really get into many celebrity commissions or other such kudos but this year he was chosen by Jewish Reggea artist Matisyahu to illustrate the cover of his CD Akeda.
You can currently find Jimmy Ovadia out somewhere making his art, or on Facebook or at this page here.
