International Contemporary Art Fair in San Diego?  Yes.

Reported by Katherine Sweetman

THE Contemporary Art Fair for San Diego, ART SAN DIEGO, is happening this weekend.  The fair, in its fourth year and third location, will this time be held at the The Balboa Park Activity Center, a “38,000 square-foot multi-purpose gymnasium built to accommodate badminton, table tennis, volleyball,  and other activities, including tournaments” -Balboa Park website. So, pack your work out gear and tennis rackets, or perhaps your nicest suit and flashiest dress and come on down. This is the first time the festivities have been held at Balboa Park, and although it’s a beautiful location, I personally am on the fence as to how fitting it will be. But I will let you know.

Thursday (9/6)  is the VIP kick off  7:00 – 9:00 pm (75$), but regular admission tickets only 15$ for the whole weekend (fri-sun)
Hours: Friday – Saturday 12p-7p: Sunday 12p-5p, and admission includes a line up of events inside the fair see schedule.

Fri-Sun ART SAN DIEGO is a family-friendly affair with some stunningly curated galler-ettes with local, national, and international art galleries displaying their goods. In the past the the scale and quality of work has been top notch, so I expect nothing less this year.

Also see associated Art Labs – “Art Labs feature special curated projects by 9 leading San Diego-based art institutions, alternative spaces, and universities within the fair. ArtLabs showcase the thriving art landscape of San Diego. 2012 ArtLabs include: SDMA, MCASD, Object USA, Boomerang for Modern, Woodbury School of Architect, SDSU Contemporary Furniture Department, UCSD VisARTS, Pt. Loma Nazarene Department of Art & Design, Mingei Museum.” (ART SD Website)
